Imagic Productions began in 1997 and since then has been providing media production services to the government and non-government organizations (NGO), whose voices are sometimes left unheard because of their inability to access channels of information. It was a dream transformed into reality by its founder, Judy Rosario Diño, whose years of experience as a writer and director gave her the inspiration to venture out and explore the vast world of development through what she now calls development arts. Her primary medium of bringing the message across is through videos.

To date, this full-service production and post-production company has been serving the needs of different sectors – from small fisherfolk, persons with disability and urban poor organizations to the country’s migration agencies and social welfare departments, from children’s organizations to international humanitarian agencies. The objective of Imagic Productions is clear: service to the development sector through advocative videos.

An Imagic Beginning by Chary A. Diño

As I write the history of this company, I also write a big part of my life with it. After graduating from college with a degree in Broadcast Communication, I find myself on a road less-travelled by most broadcast majors. I opted to use the video for people who cannot express themselves in the mainstream because we all know that the broadcast airwaves are dominated by the more powerful slice of the society. They have used television and radio for commercial entertainment and news programs.

I wanted to do otherwise not knowing where it will really lead to. I got my inspiration way back in the early 90’s from an organization I used to work for—the Communication Foundation for Asia (CFA). Social communication was in the very heart of what they do. I learned from working with them that media can actually be used to help uplift the condition of those who are marginalized because they have less in life. I learned that if we can use the video to express the conditions that they are going through, it will enlighten others to know how they can help and be part of their transformation.

I began with working as a production assistant for a video documentary on anti-cyanide fishing and I remember after a week-long shoot in Zambales, I went home early morning so excited to tell the story of what I went through. I was in tears, I remember, because the whole experience simply changed my life. I knew there was no turning back. I always share this first experience of mine because it has left an imprint in my heart. I am happy to share that it was not an easy task and we took many risks to complete our production back then but there was something inside me that was planted and has now grown into a dream come true.

With a lot of blessings and hard work, Imagic Productions which I have founded almost 22 years ago still holds true that seed that was planted as we now have been producing advocative videos since 1997. And through this page in our website, I hope to share more of what we have gone through, the journeys we have taken, stories of what I know now that I didn’t before and where I dream this road will lead us to.

What keeps us loving our work is our belief that this is how we can help change the world in our small way

Miss Chary
Chary Diño
Director

A nine to five job, a corporate attire and a designated workspace inside a room are just a few of the things that Chary can live without. You can find her happiest and at her element when she is on the field interviewing combatants down south, sharing stories with NGO workers who speak passionately about their work, filming landscapes and seascapes for an environment project or simply travelling in a bus, boat or plane to her next destination for another assignment. Her philosophy about work is pretty much the same about life— that in the end, it is the relationships that matter in all that we do.

Chary graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication, major in Broadcast Communication at the University of the Philippines Diliman in 1986, a time when martial law was just lifted and together with a new democracy, the resurgence of the civil society that stretched its arms to assist the marginalized Filipinos. Finding out that creating advocative videos is her calling in life makes half her journey completed. The other half she lives everyday with a heart that continues to discover, through her work, the inner strength and resilience of the Filipino spirit.

Circle Edit - Ms Tina
Tina Gamez Tovar Dias
Photographer

If the language of her heart can be captured in photographs, it would surely be teeming with amazing landscapes and seascapes, an eternal beauty that words alone may never be able to describe. Tina began her journey with the camera as early as her high school days and, since then, has not been separated from it- even as she crossed to another continent from the Philippines to the USA as an immigrant in the early 90s. A medical doctor by profession who graduated from the University of Sto. Tomas, she made the crucial decision of raising a family as her top priority and then continued her inseparable bond with photography as her new profession. Tina served as the sole photographer for a book project “Aruga” for the Biodiversity and Management Bureau (BMB) of the Philippines, where she travelled to seven protected areas all over the country and where great adventures and challenges only proved, all the more, that her love for this craft was unwavering. Her project for the UNDP’s Small Grants Programme Phase 5 gave her the opportunity to shine brightest as she tests her prowess in caves and underground rivers, something that Imagic will always be proud of! Truly, it is  always a gift and a magic to have Tina in our midst even for our most challenging photography projects.

Her eagerness and dedication to learn and to be trained brought her to a life adventure she did not expect to take. Her mischance to attend college did not hinder her to thrive and earn the diploma she owns to herself – her present career, her gained experiences and learnings in life, and the relationship she built with her team members. She is mother-like to the team.
